THE 3 BEDROOM GUINNESS HERMITAGE HOUSE DISCOVERED IN A BLOCK OF FLATS. (PART 2)

This Cornwall Homechoice Property Ref : 15056 was advertised between 17 to 21 May 2014, and stated the picture was a “Front view” of a “3 Bed House In St Austell”.

In reality it shows a Block of Flats owned by Guinness Hermitage at Barkers Green in St Austell.

The same “3 Bed House in St Austell” was re-advertised between 14 to 18 June 2014, as Cornwall Homechoice Property Ref : 15404, and again showed the same “Front view” of the Block of Flats owned by Guinness Hermitage.

Guinness Hermitage is another one of Cornwall Council’s housing partners, like Sanctuary Housing, who can wilfully mislead Homechoice applicants with Council approval. This because the original advertisement was reported to both Cornwall Council and Guinness Hermitage as being “misleading”.

The only differences between the 2 advertisements is Ref : 15056 only mentioned “Suitable for persons with a disability”.

Ref : 15404 stated “Full wheelchair standard, through floor vertical lift, Wet floor shower (wet room), Wheel chair access inside, Wheelchair access outside. “Preference given to wheelchair users needing adaptions” and “Through floor lift”. Also “Energy Rating : B ( 81 – 91 )”.

So why can’t this property be a different “3 Bed House In St Austell” owned by Guinness Hermitage ?

Firstly the use of the same wilfully misleading picture and secondly because the Council’s “Recent Lets” information on it’s website shows no outcome for property Ref : 15056.

So if Property Ref : 15056 was withdrawn – why was it withdrawn ?

Most probably because it wilfully downplayed any “Preference” to someone with a disability to make the property more attractive and winnable for a couple with 1 or 2 children, without blatantly discriminating against the disabled.

Discrimination is nothing new to Cornwall Council and on issues relating to it not knowing Homechoice Properties had Special Adaptions for the disabled, or that it was not responsible for the continued use of Misleading Homechoice Advertisement Pictures and descriptions, or that it was not responsible for it’s ‘Website (CBL) Recent Lets information being incomplete and not fit for purpose in helping Homechoice applicants make the right decisions, the Council’s only response over the years has been to continue blaming it’s Housing Partners.

The truth is the latter has more to do with Cornwall Council’s wilfull blindness to meet it’s responsibilities unlawfully, and with the help of it’s Housing Partners in crime.

  1. The house was offered to a applicant it fell through because the current resident other property feel through there fore the house isnt available yet for the new applicant to move in

    • Also if you type the address of the house in to google maps it shows u the flats so maybe its googles fault lol and not home choice

  2. The house mentioned above was offered to the right family! With a child who is a full time wheelchair user and is in desperate need of this house type. The application was going though but the tenants circumstances changed and are no longer moving at this time. When the house becomes available they will be re-offered the house.
I agree the photos were misleading but I think it was a photo error as this is the photo that comes up on google map images. I think the whole system is wrong when it comes to people with special circumstances and they should not have to go through the whole bidding system if a house is for a someone with disabilities and addapted it should be a separate field where it is offered to someone with the right needs. Then these types of house would not go to the wrong people who dont need floor lifts etc.
It wouldn’t be hard to have a separate list for familys who are waiting for a wheelchair assessable home! Terrible system. Oh and not to add don’t advertise a house thats not even available at that time.

    • Hello. Thanks for taking the time to comment on this property. I will try and address all your messages in one go.

The point I was making about the misleading photo, which is placed in the advertisement by the landlord according to Cornwall Council, nothing to do with Google, is that the property and photo were first advertised in May 2014, when I advised both the landlord and the Council it was misleading.

The property was withdrawn and never appeared on the Council’s website regarding ‘Recent Lets’. The same property and misleading photo was then re-advertised a month later with changes to the text. To date the Letting details have still not been added to the Council’s ‘Recent Lets’ information.

So why would Guinness Hermitage knowingly use a photo it knew to be misleading and why did Cornwall Council knowingly allow Guinness Hermitage to place this misleading photo and information on it’s website again ?

I think part of the answer is that Cornwall Council and it’s Homechoice Partnership Landlords are engaging in discrimination against Homechoice applicants, the disabled and the mentally ill, and are breaking the law in how they willfuly abuse Homechoice and deceive applicants.

I know of properties with special adaptions for the disabled which have been awarded to individuals with no need of the adaptions, advertised Homechoice properties which were offered without a preference but were ‘ringfenced’ and fully or part furnished. That bidders never stood a chance of winning these properties and were deceived into bidding for them.
